Tokyo Tsukiji
Working for over two years, I chose to capture the essence of Tsukiji fish market, one of the most iconic spots of the Japanese capital.
I wanted to catch the atmosphere of my favourite moment of the day, just before the market closes.
Traders hurriedly prepare the last few goods, cleaning their tools or having a solitary snack, eyes drooping momentarily. My subjects are taken while laying spontaneously, in order to capture true glimpses of life,
and to uncover the borderline between the emptying market and the life waiting outside.
Press Coverage
Here I collected articles and posts about “Tokyo Tsukiji”, a place to discover which risks losing its identity.
The Event
From 5th October to 10th November 2018, Leica Galerie Milano will host “TOKYO TSUKIJI” at the Leica Store in Milan: an exhibition that document my journey inside the biggest fish market in the world. The exhibition, curated by Benedetta Donato and sponsored by the Japanese Institute of Culture in Rome, features 30 photographs and tells the story, picture-by-picture, of one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.
